Built in 1615 with a metal structure and a large glass roof, it is one of the oldest covered markets in Paris and is named after a former orphanage nearby: here all the children were dressed in red. A little further on, the Carreau du Temple offers live shows, creative workshops, a sports area and a restaurant-bar. It's a far cry from the Middle Ages when poor Parisians came to dress here, and even farther from the time when Templar monks transformed this marshy land into living space.
